Includes correspondence, personal journals, and an unpublished autobiography, magazine articles with the original pieces, promotional materials, photograph albums, scrapbooks, and memorabilia. His early journals and correspondence are written in German and his correspondence with Brazilian friends and officials in Portuguese. Of special importance is the unpublished book-length autobiography written in the early 1940's. Much of the correspondence from the 1930's through the 1960's chronicles his dealings with various lecture agencies and with hunting clients.

19 ALsS. Many of Woodhouse's letters refer to manuscripts (mostly unidentified) he has been reading. His August 12, 1812 letter mentions Lord Byron; another referred to is John Hamilton Reynolds. Familiar letters relate to the quotidian: bottles of wine, borrowing bedsheets, where he will dine that evening. Some letters refer to legal services he is providing to the firm of Taylor and Hessey.

ALS. Thanks Klaproth for sending him a book on Tibet. Manning welcomes more volumes but regrets he is unable to reciprocate with books on China. "I spoke yesterday on the subject to Mr. Elphinstone's Chinese servant ... but I had no success." Manning includes J. Elphinstone's address: "I do not doubt he will be very glad to hear from you." In closing, Manning asks that his regards be given to Monsieur Remusat.
