Collection consists of a statement (1861) of Benson's account with T.A. Barrett, and a diary (1864-1865) recording Benson's activities abord the ship GEORGE HENRY as it sailed along the coast of Virginia, South Carolina, and Georgia. Although the GEORGE HENRY was not a combat ship, it was actively involved in the transportation of soldiers, prisoners, and supplies. The collection also contains an undated photograph of Benson. Formerly known as Anonymous journal, 1861-1865.
