The first gift, undated and dated scrapbooks, correspondence, programs, and ledgers, was given on 27 August 1982 by Mrs. John I. Cowell. The second gift, scrapbooks from the late 1970s and early 1980s, also from Mrs. John I. Cowell, was added to the collection on 3 April 1985. The third gift, two scrapbooks from the 1990s, was given by Elizabeth Estes Taylor on 29 May 2002. The collection begins in 1866 and ends in 1996. Records include correspondence, financial papers, literary productions, scrapbooks and scrapbook material, and other printed materials. This collection contains the professional and personal materials of William Tracy Early (Tracy Early). This collection is comprised of newspaper and magazine articles, correspondence, diaries, photographs, books, sermons, newspaper clippings, and school work of Tracy Early, who was a Chaplain, pastor, and freelance journalist. A large majority of the collection is articles written by Tracy Early. Included with articles he wrote are research materials, newspaper clippings, notes, and correspondence that pertain to specific articles. Personal materials include correspondence to and from immediate and extended family members and personal diaries from 1948 until his death in 2005.
