The miners union bylaws and minutes book, 1862-1896, and mining claims record book, 1861-1862, which lacks pages 1-16, are professionally rebound with slip cases.
Collection is open for research.
The collection contains three ledgers for the Buena Vista Mining District, located in Unionville, Nevada. The first contains the bylaws and minutes of the Buena Vista miners union, from 1 May 1862 to 28 September 1896. Added near the end of this ledger are 50 pages of mining claims from 25 January 1892 to 8 January 1895. There are two Buena Vista Mining District recorder ledgers which contain the sale and location of mining claims, town lots in Unionville and the district, and water rights. The first recorders book covers 29 October 1861 to 24 May 1862, during the time Unionville was in Humboldt County, Nevada Territory, and includes (page 106) the entry for the mining claim that Samuel Clemens bought from Hugo Pfersdorff on 28 January 1862. The second recorders book covers mining and some water claims for 4 December 1867 to 20 July 1891.
The Buena Vista Mining District was located around the territorial town of Unionville in the Buena Vista Valley on the east slope of the West Humboldt Range.
