Papers relate to Draper's tenure as President of the Southern Baptist Convention, 1982-84. Includes correspondence, clippings, photographs, documents and articles. The correspondence covers a wide range of social, political and theological issues as well as letters relating to the operation of the denomination. Issues covered in the papers include: Lebanon and Middle East, abortion, woman's role in the church, ordination of women, liberalism in Baptist institutions, school prayer, a creedal statement, creationism, the fundamentalist-moderate debate, and nuclear disarmament.

Southern Baptist pastor, writer, and denominational leader, who served as President of the Southern Baptist Convention, 1982-1984. Draper was viewed as a conservative and his election appeared to be a victory for the fundamental-conservative wing of the denomination. He has served as pastor of the First Baptist Church, Euless, Texas since 1975.
