Howell, Robert Boyte Crawford, 1801-1868.Biographical sketch -- Scope and content note -- Content list.Southern Baptist minister, missionary, editor and denominational leader. Howell served as pastor of the First Baptist Church, Nashville, Tennessee and the Second Baptist Church in Richmond. He was involved in a bitter dispute with J.R. Graves, leader of the landmark movement in Tennessee. Howell edited the "Tennessee Baptist" from 1835 to 1846.Collection consists of three bound volumes of Howell material. The first two volumes include letters, reports, and statements relating to the Howell-Graves controversy in the 1850's and 1860's. The third volume is a book of sermons by Howell. The sermons date from 1842 to 1860.
