Letters and obituary notices, documenting several individuals. Many of the items are related to Joel L. Hallum and his wife Esther M. Lipscomb Hallum. Letters concern family matters, including information on several members of the Lipscomb family in Texas and Alabama. Others represented in the letters are James Short and his wife, Elvira W. Hallum Short, residents of Lavaca and Washington Counties, Texas. A letter each from two of Short's sons describe Civil War events, including an account of the activities of the Confederate Army in Virginia.
