Casey, Henry Rozier, 1815-1883.Collection is open for research.This collection consists of a scrapbook compiled by Henry Rozier Casey from circa 1860 through 1883. It contains clippings of historical and political interest, many relating to the Civil War, obituaries, anecdotes, and poetry. Most items are undated. Also included are engravings of prominent persons, scenes, and fashion prints. One engraving is of the Georgia Female College from Graham's Magazine, 1844. Many of the articles in the scrapbook were written by Casey, including a series of articles on the Augusta and Hartwell Railroad and the Augusta and Rabun Gap Railroad. Casey of Augusta, Georgia. Henry studied medicine at the Medical College of South Carolina, Charleston, and at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta where he graduated in 1840. He was a delegate from Georgia to the National Democratic Convention in Charleston, South Carolina in 1860. During the Civil War he was president of the Board of Medical Examiners of Georgia until he was appointed Surgeon General of the state in 1864.
