Civic, business, and personal papers of R.E. Barclay, as well as Barclay's collection of the papers of Julius E. Raht, early resident of Ducktown, Tennessee. Barclay's papers include correspondence (general, political, and that related to Barclay's book Ducktown back in Raht's time), diaries (1925-1967), scrapbooks, and legal documents. Topics include copper mining, Barclay's writings, and Polk County business, history, politics, and schools. Included in the latter are papers relating to Barclay's participation in the Good Government League of Polk County. Some documents relate to Barclay's World War I service. In addition, ten packages hold 19th and 20th century newspapers collected by Barclay, including newspapers from Chattanooga, Knoxville, Polk County, Cleveland (Tenn.), Nashville, and a few 19th century newspapers from Georgia, Maryland, New York, North Carolina, and Ohio.
