Lengthy correspondence between George Thompson and his wife Letha Thompson. Early letters from George reflect his activities as a surveyor at a sawmill in Montesano, Wash. The bulk of the collection is correspondence between the two while Thompson served at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and then in Alaska while assigned to the submarine chaser, chiefly describing Navy life and happenings in Alaska. Letha's letters contain great detail about life at home in Aberdeen where she lived at the home of her parents, loneliness, the Spanish influenza epidemic, and the drudgery of a woman with a small child and an absent husband, revealing the difficulties of separation. One folder of ms. letters, billheads, and legal forms, most related to Ebenezer and Martha Davis of Casco, Me., and their sons, Thomas and William, including Civil War letters. They came in an envelope on which was written "Letters belonging to Mother Davis written in War times./Flora A. Jillson Estate." One of the letters is written from "East Oasis" by E. Davis to his son, and mentions that it is fine lumbering country. Several are written from William to his mother, one possibly from a Civil War camp, and another from Camp Keyes Hospital in Augusta, Me. It is possible that both Ebenezer and his son William both served in the Civil War
