Included are papers related to Dr. Otis R. Bowen's tenure as an Indiana state legislator, Governor of Indiana, professor of medicine, and Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Dr. Bowen's papers contain extensive documentation of the many issues that dominated his time as governor of Indiana and Secretary of Health and Human Services. The records include correspondence with constituents and prominent government officials, newspaper clippings, briefings, policy reports, speeches, and other writings on a variety of state, national, and international issues. This collection consists of photographs taken mainly during Dr. Otis R. Bowen's time as Indiana governor. There are some photographs that predate his 1972 election. However, in the scope of the entire collection, these photographs are few. The photographs instead depict his gubernatorial career, covering instances of him swearing people into their offices, Republican Party functions, as well as campaigning events. These photographs encompass the dates from 1949 until 1979. There are some photographs that are not dated; however, it is likely that these pictures fall within the same time period. There are some notable people within this photograph collection. There are photographs of Gerald Ford (Box 1, Folder 11 & Box 6, Folder 3), George H.W. Bush (Box 4, Folder 16), Robert J.
