The forty-nine photographic negatives which make up this collection are of downtown Missoula, Mont., flooding at the Buckhouse Bridge, the Ninemile House, Bannack Ghost Town, and the Paxson Murals in the Missoula County Courthouse. Correspondence, writings, political materials, memorabilia, publications, photographs, and a collection of Native American artifacts. The correspondence and photographs are especially extensive and represent his many important and significant friends and acquaintances. The collection also contains materials produced by Linderman's heirs, largely his daughters, Wilda Linderman, Verne Linderman, and Norma Linderman Waller. The collection also represents well the continued efforts of his granddaughter, Sarah Jane Waller Hatfield. The materials document the efforts of these family members to perpetuate the memory of Frank Linderman through donations and loans of materials to and displays at museums and publication or republication of his writings

The collection, which consists of approximately 1300 works of art, reflects the Stenzels' interest in visual imagery of the American Northwest of the 19th and early 20th centuries, and includes numerous or significant works by James Madison Alden, E. A. Burbank, James Montgomery Flagg, Joseph Kehoe, Hans Kleiber, William Forsyth McIlwraith, James Henry Moser, E. S. Paxson, Lute Pease, Cleveland Rockwell, James Everett Stuart, James Gilchrist Swan, Peter Peterson Toft, Daniel Winter, and Charles Erskine Scott Wood, plus approximately 490 additional works by over 200 artists, as well as many by unidentified artists. Paxson's commemorative badges for annual meetings of groups including Montana Pioneers, USWV(United Spanish War Veterans), IOOF (International Order of Odd Fellows), BPOE (Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks), and M.S.S.A. (Montana State Sportsman's Association), as well as army artillery insignia pins, a Butte badge, an artist's palette-shaped pin, and a Cape Cod Pageant badge

The Franz R. and Kathryn M. Stenzel Collection of Western American Art Addition consists of thirty-two works of art, twenty Native American artifacts, and various manuscript items, which decorated the home of Kathryn M. Stenzel until her death in 2006 and which comprise the remainder of the Franz R. and Kathryn M. Stenzel Collection of Western American Art that they donated in 1997. This addition likewise reflects the Stenzels' interest in visual imagery of the American Northwest of the 19th and early 20th centuries
