This is a collection of maps relating to Cook and the adjacent counties in Illinois, or the area that was to become Cook and adjacent counties. Some maps include insets of more than one time period and this is indicated in the Contents note. Maps often show specific townships within Cook and other counties. Maps often show subdivision of areas into lots and often relate to real estate promotion and sales. Streets, railroad lines, parks, and other local features often are indicated. Maps may relate to an area before or after its annexation to these counties. A history of county boundaries in the United States is provided by the Newberry Library: http://publications.newberry.org/ahcbp
