This collection consists of four daily diaries written by Ruby Scofield Doyle from January 1922 to December 1923. They provide a detailed account of the daily activities of women and men living on and working a ranch. Ruby describes cleaning, cooking, sewing, spending time with family and visitors, the work of the men in the field and with the animals, and caring for her child, Dorma Ruth. The collection also includes twelve images which were found with the diaries and are very likely of the Doyle family

This collection contains moving images in various formats including VHS, DVD, U-Matic, 16mm, 2 inch and 8mm. All of the film in this collection pertains to various events and activities either hosted or participated in by the University of Montana including sporting events, lectures, parades, building openings, academic program highlights, and convocations. There are also promotional materials for prospective students such as TV spots and introductory videos. Materials originated from various departments on campus and will eventually be reintegrated into their originating collection

The collection contains diaries kept by August Hollensteiner with daily entries concerning his business and family. Diaries from 1885 until 1894 are written entirely in German, while the later diaries (1902 to 1941) contain dual entries, one in German and one in English. Many of the diaries also contain daily weather records kept by Hollensteiner in the back pages and records of letters he sent and received. Correspondence in the collection is mostly to Hollensteiner and his wife from their son Armin and his wife Carlotta, also included are letters from Hollensteiner's various relatives concerning his death and ancestry addressed to his daughters Edna and Neola. An address book in the collection contains records of letters he sent and received along with the addresses of many of his family members and friends. Copies of poll lists for Bivan's Gulch in Madison County, and for Missoula County; together with proclamations, appointments, and territorial council election returns (1863) -- There are references to voting irregularities during the council election in the Fort Laramie precinct. Soldiers at Fort Laramie comprised most of the population, and more people voted than were listed as registered voters. The entire vote was thrown out when the delegates met after the election

The city of Missoula began as the town of Hell Gate, incorporated in 1860. Hell Gate received its name from the Native Americans. Before the settlement of whites the Flathead Indians used the valley as a stopping place to dig up the bitterroot plant, a staple in their diet. Hell Gate Town, Missoula County, Washington Territory was incorporated in 1860 until its demise in 1866. Missoula County encompassed present day Missoula and Deer Lodge Counties, as well as a good portion of land north and south of present day Missoula County. Hell Gate Town was located at the confluence of the Clark Fork and Bitterroot Rivers. In 1863, Missoula County reverted to the Idaho territory when it was created in that year. Missoula County then shifted its boundaries to look more like its present day boundaries dividing the Bitterroot Mountains from the Rocky Mountains. The collection contains records from the Montana local government study commissions from across the state in 1975-1976. The cities and counties that are represented in the collection have the final drafts of their study proposals that the citizens voted on. The Missoula City-County coalition study has the most specific information included in the collection. Many of the other city-county studies only have the final draft of their proposal and not the research on which they used in their decision
