The William Stull Holt papers cover the life and career of the American history professor through correspondence, diaries, photographs, reports, speeches, writings and other materials. The bulk of the collection relates to Holt's academic posts and several of the major correspondents are comprised of fellow University of Washington faculty members, as well as colleagues from other institutions, including Douglass Adair, Arthur Bestor, Robert E. Burke, Warren Cohen, Giovanni Costigan, Donald Emerson, Lawrence Gelfand, Kent Greenfield, Solomon Katz, Thomas Pressly, Max Savelle, Robert Skotheim and Dennis Strong. Other correspondents reflect Holt's political activities and include such notable figures as Brock Adams; his affiliation with the Democratic Party at the local and national level is further represented through conference and convention files. Subjects documented include the use of the new Medical Science building, the usage of animals for research, controversies in the Graduate Program, and advances of technology. There is a timeline of the teachers and courses in the Physiology and Pharmacology departments from 1915- 1980, and a listing of course changes over the years. Also included in the collection are the notes and rough drafts that Ederstrom used to write A History of the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, 1905-1977

The materials date from 1928-1955. 77 photographs were separated and added to the Orin G. Libby Photograph Collection. Most of the photographs were for use in Paul Barr's book North Dakota Artists (1954)
