Records document the Texas Association of Museums (TAM) and its work to promote educational opportunities and communication among Texas museums. The bulk of the records concern TAM's operations, 1977-1982, particularly its membership, finances, and grants, including grant materials from state and national arts and humanities organizations -- Organizational and council records include: TAM foundation documents, 1969, 1974-1983; annual reports, 1977-1981; and minutes of TAM council meetings, 1968-1981. Records of TAM activities pertain to: annual meetings, 1961-1982; workshops and courses, 1970-1983; museum salary surveys, 1978, 1981; exhibits, 1977-1981; and publications, including the TAM newsletter, 1974-1982, and the Mitchell A. Wilder Publication Awards, 1979-1981. A final series contains records relating to non-TAM organizations and activities such as state, regional, and national museum and arts groups

This collection includes 11 file folders contained in one 2.5 x 15.5 x 10-inch box. These files contain correspondence and other documents relating to work done for the museum by Joseph A. Thatcher and Harry C. James. Thatcher and James both served as Treasurer of the Board of Trustees of the Colorado Museum of Natural History, now the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. Thatcher served in the office from 1900 to 1918. James served from 1918 to 1932. Most of the papers in the collection are typewritten and handwritten letters to Thatcher concerning financial transactions involving the newborn museum, which was incorporated in 1900. Some of the earliest letters deal with the Edwin Carter collection, one of the museum's founding collections. Others discuss the business of the committee in charge of constructing the museum's building in Denver's City Park. They are comprised of materials concerning construction and maintenance of Rienzi, the Masterson's art collection, charitable and civic activities, social activities including weddings, teas and dances, production of theatrical plays, memorabilia, and photographs. Series eight, entitled Family Papers, includes holiday cards, correspondence, creative works, materials related to the Cowan, Sterling, and Turner families, genealogy materials for both Mr. and Mrs. Masterson, obituaries and related material, school and travel. Includes ephemera, correspondence and photograhpy of national political figures, royalty, and Hollywood celebrities
