Contact prints of Eastland ship disaster, which occurred 24 July, 1915, when the whale-back steamer taking Western Electric plant workers and their families for a cruise on Lake Michigan overturned in the Chicago River near the LaSalle Street bridge. Images include views of removal of bodies, temporary morgue with coffins, pumping water from ship's hull, restoring ship to an upright position, cameramen making movie newsreels, and rescuers

Professional, family, and personal correspondence of photojournalist Declan Haun as well as notes and reflections, mid-1960s; small notebooks (58 v.) about assignments, lists, etc., 1960-1990; date book calendars, 1967-1983; examples of Haun's published photo essays; items on educational activities in which he participated; manuscript by Richard Bradford about Gary, Indiana, that was to be illustrated with Haun's photographs if published; clippings and notes compiled by Haun as reference file; files relating to Haun's work for National Geographic magazine ca. 1977-1980s and his contributions to the Odyssey exhibition celebrating the magazine's 100th anniversary; plans for a photography magazine of his own; and other papers. Haun worked for the Charlotte Observer, 1958-1963; and as a freelancer for the Black Star agency, 1963-1994, while he resided in Chicago. There is relatively little material dating from 1967 to 1977

The Robert Joyce papers include photographs of acts of social disobedience, including Civil Rights Movement sit-ins, riots, Cold War peace demonstrations, and anti-Vietnam War protests. Depictions include the Cuban Missile crisis, a "Kill a Commie for Christ" counter-protest, a "Wall Street is War Street" demonstration, and activities of the Bread and Puppet Theater. There are approximately 500 rolls of negatives and 500 prints and contact prints, as well as 83 contact sheets, and 125 photo prints. The collection also holds 28 mounted photos used by Kurt Wamfried and Ed Leos for a Robert Joyce exhibit in April 1976. The collection includes a 1973 oral history interview with Joyce and issues of Working Artist magazine, March 13, 1961-July 15, 1970
Chicago History Museum
Articles, correspondence, photographs, books, newspaper clippings, magazines, texts of speeches, certificates, and other papers of Rus Arnold, a Chicago photojournalist. The collection largely consists of articles written and photographs taken by Arnold for newspapers, magazines, lectures, and industrial promotional literature as well as two books written and illustrated by Arnold: Flash Photography (1940) and Guide to 120/620 Cameras (1961). Also present are articles written by Arnold's wife Lucy for her Hyde Park Herald column on cooking, titled: "Eating by Heart" (1976-1982). Other materials relate to the Kenwood community and neighborhood affairs in Hyde Park, including issues of Ray News (1951-1954), the monthly newsletter published by the Ray School Parent-Teacher Association. Collection also includes some photographs of family, Pete Seeger and the Almanac Singers; and 22 sound cassettes of interviews by Rus Arnold related to articles he wrote for Camera 35 and Par Golf ca. ...
