For the early years, 1925-1952, the records consist primarily of correspondence and reports regarding certification by the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education. After 1950, the institution was accredited by North Central, and the series changes in character. It contains less correspondence and a greater assortment of reports and self studies. In addition, the series contains reports relating to accreditation in specific subject areas

Richard D. Guynn was an economics professor at West Georgia College from 1969 to 2001, but the collection only contains material from his last decade at the school. In the mid-1990s, the College of Business was going through the accreditation process, and Guynn was researching possible antitrust violations by accrediting associations. In particular, he examined the details of the 1995 case, Massachusetts School of Law v. the American Bar Association, the notes for which take up several folders. The collection contains Guynn's research on accrediting associations in general, including the standards set for accreditation for Colleges of Business. There are congressional research reports, notes about legal cases, and various articles about university accreditation. There are also multiple drafts of a research paper and a journal article written by Guynn about his research.
