Since 1935 the Boston Housing Authority (BHA) has been responsible for planning, building, and managing housing for low-income families and the elderly in Boston, Massachusetts, with financial assistance from state and federal agencies. The post of Superintendent of Buildings was established in 1919 and renamed State Superintendent of Buildings in 1938. In 1962 it was placed at the head of the Bureau of State Buildings (Executive Office of Administration and Finance), replaced in 1980 by the Bureau of State Office Buildings
