The Philadelphia, Pa. papers, 1752-1864, include a volume concerning the Union Reading Circle of Byberry (Phila.), Pa., 1856-1857, with its constitution and by-laws, members' signatures, and newsclippings of verses and anecdotes. The minutes of each meeting include readings from specific works, recitations, book purchases, and the quoting of several rhymes, dialogues, and addresses, such as "Self-Government" and the "Mental Capacity of Man.".
