The copies were created by or under the direction of George Austin Morrison from original manuscripts in the collections of the New-York Historical Society, the New York Public Library, and the War Department, Washington D.C. Documents principally concern his military career and activities as a captain and major in the Continental Army, New York Militia. Later documents, 1784-1826, concern McCullen's work as a cooper in New York City and a petition by his widow, Mary McCullen, seeking restitution for properties lost during the Revolutionary War.
