The Association was formed in 1972 as the Avon Loop Protection Association, changing to its present name in 1976. Its main achievement has been to secure the residential character of the Avon Loop, an attractive and historically interesting part of the city, and it continues to focus on community and environmental issues in that area

In about 1920 Miss Eanice Peters started helping her father in his newly established boot repair business in Papanui Road. She continued the business for 50 years until her retirement in 1970, when the shop closed

Keith Baker served in the Salvation Army's Christchurch City Corps from 1947-1950. The first part of this account concerns the Corps. This is followed by a description of the setting up of a footpath headquarters opposite the site of the Ballantyne's fire. From here he and helpers dispensed tea and refreshments to the firemen and to others affected by the fire, and later helped in other ways

In November 1874 William Andrews sailed on the Somersetshire from Plymouth to Melbourne. In January 1875 he left Melbourne on the Otago for Bluff. While there he travelled by train to Invercargill, then sailed to Port Chalmers, (visiting Dunedin by train). He then sailed from Port Chalmers to Lyttelton. On February 6th. he travelled by train through the tunnel to Christchurch

The New Zealand men travelled on the Awatea to Australia where they were joined by a small group of Australians. They then sailed to England on a passenger ship (the Strathallen?) via the Suez Canal
