Mr. Berger describes his experiences as a cadet growing up in the area, enticed by Maritime's free tuition in 1965 and his father's promise to buy him a new car if he decided he didn't want to attend Maritime after one semester. Mr. Berger was a deck student who had interactions with Gerry Riviera (Geraldo Rivera), Captain Olivet, the Grace Lines, Philadelphia, Seamen's Church Institute, Europe, and the Vietnam War
