Includes articles concerning the growth of the library system and the establishment of the (1st) Bayside Library on Virginia Beach Blvd., Windsor Woods Library, Bayside Library on Independence Blvd., and Kempsville Public Library. Also includes articles concerning the role of the library board, Mrs. Beda's resignation, and the hiring of Samuel Clay as her replacement. Papers reflect the day-to-day life of a farm family in Princess Anne county from 1817 to 1889. These include deeds, correspondence, and business and tax receipts, as well as grocery and sundry goods receipts, slave care, tool repair, livestock purchases. Daniel Ward went bankrupt in 1867, from which he recovered. Many early documents are related to the Fisher family; Daniel Ward married Fanny Fisher. Early documents also relate to the Gornto family.
