This workshop was part of the development of Nzinga, the queen king (ultimately titled Njinga, the queen king: return of a warrior), a musical theater work juxtaposing the life of Nzinga, a seventeenth-century female ruler of Ndongo (present-day Angola), with twentieth-century characters and political events, incorporating African and Afro-Brazilian music and dance.
