Literary papers of an experimental United States writer, documenting his career from the late 1930s to 2004. The collection includes manuscript drafts of Mac Low's verse, plays, and criticism; documentation of conferences Mac Low attended and residencies he held; programs and posters for readings by Mac Low and other writers; biographical items such as bibliographies, resumes, and family photographs; transcripts of interviews of Mac Low; and Mac Low's notebooks for the years 1948-1990, which contain early drafts of a great number of his poems, as well as diaristic reflections about the business of writing and performing. A substantial portion of the collection is comprised of correspondence and manuscripts sent to Mac Low from a diverse group of poets, novelists, performance artists, editors, publishers, and scholars

Music has been at the center of the lives of Edith Gutierrez and her daughter, Pauline Oliveros. Gutierrez has taught piano for much of her life, played professionally, and was active in the Houston music scene. Oliveros, whom Gutierrez had with her first husband, J.B. Oliveros III, is an internationally known composer and accordionist. In 1952, at the age of 20, Pauline moved from Houston to San Francisco. She and her mother wrote to one another for the next 20 years. They discussed many topics, among which were their musical interests and activities. They come from a musically talented family. Gutierrez's father, John Monroe Gribbin, had the ability to learn musical instruments by ear. Her mother, Pauline Gribbin, taught piano for many years. Gutierrez's second husband, Patricio Gutierrez, played professionally for many years

The exhibition featured performance art documentation such as costumes, props, photographs, artist books, video, scripts, scores, and posters representing a variety of performance artists and approaches. The project also included a performance series and publication that explored the histories and legacies of performance art. The exhibition and related interviews were part of Pacific Standard Time, a city-wide project that documented the post-war (1945-1980) art scene in Los Angeles

The collection comprehensively documents David Tudor's participation in post-World War II experimental and avant-garde music and aspects of his personal life until his death in 1996. Scores by other composers, notably John Cage, Earle Brown, Morton Feldman, Christian Wolff, Sylvano Bussotti and Karlheinz Stockhausen, Tudor's realizations of their scores and his electronic compositional materials, form the most significant part of the collection. Extensive project files concern the scheduling and development of his piano concerts, electronic compositions and performances with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company. Electronic research files with equipment catalogs and notes show how Tudor taught himself complicated mathematics, equipment systems and circuitry in order to gain the requisite technical knowledge to compose his electronic work.
