Though Dr Adams discounts the suggestion that she was in any way a pioneer doctor, she nevertheless was among the earliest members of her sex to work as a General Practitioner in a South Australian country district. Her girlhood was spent in Jamestown, though she was born in England, and she graduated in Medicine from the University of Adelaide in 1922. After a term as a Medical Officer with the State Education Department, Dr Adams went to Dublin to do post-graduate work in Midwifery, and then came back to South Australia, and set up practice in Kimba. Here she remained for twelve years, moving to Adelaide in 1940, where she practised until her retirement five years ago.
