Minutes, administrative files, committee records, publicity materials, programs, scrapbooks, and other records documenting the evolution of the Raleigh Chamber Music Guild from its beginning in 1941 to 1994. Its mission statement remains the same: to further participation in, education about, and pure enjoyment of the best in chamber music that the world has to offer. In fulfilling this mission, the guild's papers reflect its various functions. Included are the job descriptions of the guild manager, president, vice-president, treasurer, and secretary from 1970. These papers contain the articles of incorporation, constitution, by-laws, grant applications, minutes of meetings, publicity about events, reviews of performances, scrapbooks, photographs, scores, audio cassettes and news paper clippings. Of particular interest is a series of musical programs collected since 1941. Also, the papers contain a brief history of the Raleigh Chamber Music Guild from 1941 to 1973

The collection consists of original manuscripts, correspondence, and related documents for "The American Story," the prize-winning, continuing script series prepared and distributed to radio stations as a public service by Broadcast Music, Inc., in association with the Society of American Historians. Designed to bring authoritative American history before wide audiences, "The American Story" was inaugurated in July 1954. Contributors to this series of 212 papers have been such outstanding historians as George Dangerfield, Marquis James, Frank Luther Mott, Allan Nevins, Arthur Schlesinger, Jr., Bruce Catton, Richard B. Morris, Howard Mumford Jones--115 altogether, faculty members of 48 colleges and universities as well as private individuals
