Forty-one images with 11 negatives (some images have more than one copy negative) -- Lawton subjects include street scenes, early buildings, the burning of gambling equipment at County Courthouse, parades, the concert band, baseball team, Rotary Park, Lake Lawtonka, picnics and fishing, and Lake Lawtonka Dam; Wichita Mountains; Star House (Cache, Okla.); and Medicine Park, Okla. Persons represented in photographs include John J. Schott and other Schott family members, members of the Fogelsong, Porkony, and Leinigner families, and Delbert C. Dexter and Leslie Price Ross, early mayors of Lawton. Photographers include M.A. Tucker, Logston Studio, and Wade Studio.
Resident of Lawton, Okla.; b. Dera Newkumet in Weatherford, Tex.; m. John J. Schott in 1909 in Norman, Okla., and later moved to Lawton; operated insurance office in Lawton from 1929-1939; after death of her husband (1943) worked for state tax commission in Oklahoma City where she was employed for 15 years. Their son, John E., continued working in the Lawton office and dealt with real estate in the 1950s. In March 1964 Dera Schott moved back to Lawton and died in June of that year.
