Consists of way bills, contract forms, a profile line of the railroad from Fort Worth to Texline, dated January 1, 1936, and a profile line to the Fort Worth & Denver South Plains Railway Company from Estelline to Dimmitt and from Silverton to Lubbock and the Fort Worth & Denver Northern Railway Company from Childress to Pampa 1932, and two newsclippings.
Chartered by the Texas Legislature on May 26, 1873, to build from Fort Worth to the Texas-New Mexico State line and connect with a line to Denver, Colorado. Came under control of General Grenville Dodge in 1881 and began construction that year. First rail line to cross the Texas Panhandle. Served area hauling cattle from the ranches to market. Later branch lines were built across the South Plains, including one to Lubbock, Texas, in 1928, to tap the cotton market.
