The collection retains the original order likely employed by Dr. George C.F. Williams in his lifetime and includes various speeches and addresses he gave at local clubs, organizations, and the Connecticut Historical Society, as well as correspondence regarding the purchase of items for his personal collection of artifacts, books, and manuscripts. Also included are original receipts and invoices for personal items and historical items he purchased for his private collection.
Williams served as president of the Connecticut Historical Society from 1919-1922 and again from 1926-1934. He graduated from the Sheffield Scientific School at Yale, then studied medicine and graduated from New York University with is medical degree. He practiced in Cheshire, Connecticut, before moving to Hartford in 1887. His avocation was history and he collected documents relating to Connecticut, the Revolutionary War and the early Republic. He held offices in a variety of corporations, societies, businesses, and charities.
