Letters to Barry from Brig. Gen. James W. Ripley, Col. J.W. Geary, Col. Richard Delafield, Gov. Sprague, J.G. Barnard, Brig. Gen. P. Kearney, Thomas M. Pomeroy, and Maj. Gen. N.P. Banks regarding artillery matters, 5 Aug. 1861 to 22 Feb. 1862. Also, invitations, letter of acceptance, menu, and newspaper clipping concerning a dinner given in honor of Maj. Gen. Barry by Millard Fillmore and other friends in Buffalo, before his move to California as commander of the 2nd Artillery.
Organized the artillery of the Army of the Potomac, and served as chief of that artillery from 27 July 1861 to 27 Aug. 1862. Also served as commander of troops on the northern frontier from the Fenian raids of 1866 until Sept. 1867.
