This collection consists chiefly of annual reports submitted to the president of the Drexel Institute of Technology by three deans of the faculty: Harry L. Bowman, LeRoy A. Brothers, and Kenneth G. Matheson, Jr. It also includes a small set of correspondence and other records from Acting Dean Brothers dated 1961-1962.
The dean of the faculty was responsible for coordinating between Drexel's various colleges, chairing the Academic Council, and overseeing academic departments that were not part of a particular college. Harry L. Bowman (b. 1889) joined the faculty of Drexel as head of the civil engineering department in 1926. He served as dean of the College of Engineering from 1953 to 1958 and also as dean of faculty from 1953 until his retirement in 1961. LeRoy A. Brothers (1904-1985), dean of the College of Engineering from 1958 to 1970, served as interim dean of faculty from 1961 to 1962. Kenneth G. Matheson, Jr. (b. 1902), son of former Drexel president Kenneth Matheson, joined the economics faculty at Drexel in 1933 and became dean of the College of Business Administration in 1950. He served as dean of faculty from 1962 to 1967.
