Photographs associated with the Montana Aeronautics Commission, an administrative body created to supervise the aeronautics industry in the state and to encourage the construction of local airports and air navigation facilities. Many photographs are related to the Montana Aviation History Project, headed by Frank W. Wiley, and were used as research for the book Montana and the Air, a history of Montana's aviation industry and aviation pioneers. Contains aerial views of locations in Montana; airports; proposed locations for the Helena city dump; search and rescue images from earthquakes and landslides; floods; the 1960 Governor's Conference; ranches; mines; dams; forest fires; snow planes; spray planes; an ice jam in the Yellowstone River; and portraits and views of aviators in the state, including Farold H. Christensen, Cromwell Dixon, William Ferguson, Robert Johnson, Charles Lindbergh, Terah T. Maroney, Katherine Stinson, Bob and Joe Westover, and many more.
