Collection consists of a volume of sewing exercises completed by Whiting (with instructions and samples), undated but probably circa 1915; and a volume presented to Whiting upon her retirement containing congratulatory messages from the faculty of Armstrong High School, 1960.
Beatrice Jeanette Whiting was an African American home economics teacher at Armstrong High School in Richmond, Virginia, who retired in 1960. She earned an M.S. at Virginia State University in 1944. The daughter of Robert W. Whiting, a contractor, she was the sister of Tossie Permelia Frances Whiting, the first dean of women at Virginia State University.
