Records of a Saint Paul-based contractor, mostly related to construction work (1887-1920s) for the Canadian Pacific, Canadian National, Great Northern, Northern Pacific, St. Paul Union Depot Company, Soo Line, and other railroads. Other projects include the Halifax ocean terminal, St. Paul Cathedral, cathedral rectory, chancery building, the St. Paul Catholic Orphanage, and Nazareth Hall. The records include contracts, specifications, bids, estimates, proposals, and correspondence. There are also minute books and stock certificate volumes for Foley Brothers, Inc. (1905-1961) and a minute book of Foley Realty and Securities Company (1917-1954).
The construction company operated under various names, including Foley Bros. (ca. 1875-1889?), Foley Bros. and Guthrie (1889-1897?), Foley Bros., Larson and Co. (1898-1907?), Foley Bros., Welch and Stewart (1907-ca. 1920?), and Foley Bros., Inc. (1905?- ). It also set up separate companies for specific projects, such as Foley Bros. and Northern Construction Co. for the construction of the Port Arthur-Sudbury line of the Canadian National Railway, and Foley Bros., Welch, Stewart and Fauquier for the Halifax Harbor project.
