Christian Ministries, an independent, ecumenical organization, was established in 1945 as the Delaware County Council of Churches to encourage cooperative efforts among local churches. It reorganized and changed its name to Christian Ministries of Delaware County in 1972. The organization has been involved in programs such as Migrant Ministries, Hope House, Feed the Baby, the Blanket Cupboard, the Helping Hand Commission, and emergency assistance programs. It was also active in a survey of area ministers in 1987. It has developed surveys to assess the needs of Delaware County and has created ideas to help these needs be met. The Christian Ministries of Delaware County's mission statement is " ... to serve and care for the spiritual and physical needs of all people ... to speak out by word and deed on issues of social justice and Christian morality, especially on behalf of the poor and powerless ... to express the oneness Christians are given through Jesus Christ's life, death and resurrection while respecting the rich diversity of our many traditions." This organization is still active in Delaware County in 2006.
