[GLASS, COMMEMORATIVE] : Wendell L. Willkie, Acceptance Speech, Aug. 17, 1940, Elwood, Ind


4 glasses (set) : glass ; 11.7 cm tall x 6.7 cm diam (rim) x 5.2 cm diam. (base).
Transparent glass drinking glass to which has been added three rows of painted red stars encircling the upper glass and three rows of blue stars encircling base of glass. Toward middle section of glass, etched in white paint, is a portrait of Wendell Willkie, rising from and framed by ten horizontal white bars, also etched in white paint. On side of glass, opposite of portrait, in white lettering, "WENDELL L. WILLKIE; 'Acceptance Speech'; AUG. 17, 1940; ELWOOD, IND." All in block lettering, except for "acceptance speech," which is in script. Set of four glasses.
Wendell L. Willkie offered his acceptance speech for the Republican nomination of President of the United States in his hometown, Elwood, Indiana. Objects like this glass commemorated the occasion. Set of four cataloged as one.
