This collection consists of 2 boxes and 1 folder containing materials pertaining to Sylvia Pedlar and Iris Lingerie, Inc. from 1946-1967. It includes sketches and photographs designed by Sylvia Pedlar. The collection also houses correspondence between Sylvia Pedlar and a variety of fashion magazines, museums, and other fashion related organizations. There are also a variety of awards and tapes of broadcasts of interviews with Sylvia Pedlar.
Sylvia Pedlar was born Sylvia Schlang in New York in 1900. She studied art and fashion illustration at the Cooper Union school and at the Art Students League, New York. She married William A. Pedlar. She was the founder and designer of Iris Lingerie, 1929-70, which closed in 1970. She was awarded the Coty American Fashion Critics award, 1951, 1964 and Neiman Marcus award, 1960. She died February 26, 1972 in New York.
