Arrival records of 358 Jews who emigrated to Worcester, Mass., registered with the HIAS as they entered the Port of Boston -- Services provided included food, clothing, and lodging. Information includes name of ship, age, sex, marital status, and occupation.
Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society founded 1880; in 1909 merged with Hebrew Sheltering House Association to become Hebrew Sheltering and Immigrant Aid Society of America (also known as Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society or HIAS); in ca. 1953 became United HIAS Service and later resumed name HIAS, Inc. (or Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society); Jewish charitable organization.
